Every experts needs a book  – Part II

It has been printed – and now?

It is done. All the struggling around the book contract, publishing house and title is behind you. You have your book in your hand. Feels great, doesn‘t it? And now? Oh no, this is not yet the time to sit back and take things easy. Quite the contrary. Now you need to promote your book. But that is the role of my publishing house, you might answer. This is only partially true. Indeed publishing houses have efficient PR-departments, however, they publish books. Many of them. Therefore, yours is not alone. Publishers will mostly do a press release on the book and will organize the sending of review copies. Some of them twitter or show activities on Facebook. But they need to cover all books they publish, so you can imagine the time and effort available for your book ..  Not enough attention to be gained for your oeuvre! But you are wise and acquired some insight knowledge on Twitter and Facebook and you started your blog!

How to promote your book?

Here we come full circle again. We have established previously that your own blog, Twitter and Facebook are ideal platforms to promote your book. You can confide in the blog why you felt compelled to write the book, your inner motivation for that subject. That creates great personalized content. The blog entry will – of course – be distributed by Twitter and Facebook. You can create a Facebook page for your book, Facebook is perfect for postings about the book, press reviews and readers‘ evaluations. One thing is of major importance: Please do not forget the „give and only then take“ philosophy of social media. Your activities should not create the feeling „my only goal is to sell the book“. You need to demonstrate its benefit to your readers, by tweeting one chapter for instance (please clarify with your publisher), or by quoting some sentences or paragraphs. Make people curious to know more about the book and therefore make them buy it!

You can open a website specifically created for your book. This can be rewarding, but will require a lot of time and energy as it requires input and strategy.  But what a great way to get people‘s attention, as you can tweet this link so easily …

I also recommend a bookinar or webinar to spread the news about your  book. Participants can address the author directly with questions, per chat or per phone, depending on the format, and learn about the book. The author has a nice platform to talk about his motivation to write his book. And by promoting the webinar or bookinar on Social Media you again draw attention to your book.

You see, there are a variety of possibilities to do PR for your book. Just try them  and find the most suitable and effective ways for you.  And then you will be well prepared to write the next one …

Now I am all set, you might think. Social Media, professional articles, a book published. No, you are missing out the most powerful tool a speaker can have: your Video!
